Lenoir County Agricultural Fair Returns to Kinston This Fall After Hiatus

The Lenoir County Fairgrounds in Kinston will again become a public stage for eastern North Carolina farm life Oct. 6–10, 2026, when the Lenoir County Agricultural Fair returns for five days of livestock, competition, and community gathering. Rides, fried food, livestock exhibits, a demolition derby, and family entertainment are planned for the fair. More than 14,000 visitors typically come through the gates during the run, drawing neighbors from across the Neuse River corridor.

The fair is a 110-year-old tradition that began in 1915 as the Great Kinston Fair. It operates at 401 Fairgrounds Road in Kinston and is organized by the Lenoir County Fair Association, which has maintained the event as an anchor of the city's fall calendar. The 2025 edition took place Sept. 30 through Oct. 4. Over more than a century, the fair has evolved from its early-twentieth-century origins into an annual celebration that sustains Kinston's agricultural identity and brings farm families together.

Livestock shows and exhibits allow local farmers and youth exhibitors to present animals for judging, learning, and demonstrating agricultural skills that affirm the value of farming in a region where agricultural heritage remains a defining identity. Signature events also include a tractor-driving contest, a demolition derby, and cake and cookie baking competitions.

For farm families and longtime fairgoers across Lenoir and Wayne counties, the fair represents an annual homecoming—a ritual gathering where residents across the broader Neuse corridor reconnect with neighbors and celebrate farm life.
